RIM Silver Jubilee Essay Competition


1 Background

The Royal Institute of management is celebrating twenty five years of its establishment through a series of activities beginning July 2011. Open Essay Competition has been identified as one of the activities.

2 Purpose

The purpose of the essay competition is to engage interested people in critically thinking and analyzing current issues in development management and propose appropriate course of action which could then be shared with general public.

3 Title of the Essay

From amongst various titles that were suggested, the Organizing Committee considering the currency, significance and interest of the theme to a wider audience selected the following   as the title for the Essay Competition:

“Education or Employment:- The Challenges to Tertiary Education in 21st Century.”

4 Event Date

The Organising Committee decided to have this as a part of the inaugural activities during the commencement of Silver Jubilee Celebrations scheduled for July 2011. All activities required shall be completed by June 2011 and the first three essays from amongst the submissions shall be selected as the winner and the cash prize along with RIM Gift and souveniour pack awarded during the inauguration.

5 Procedure for selection

Announcement for submission of essays shall be made as early as possible in the media and also uploaded in the RIM web. Last date of submission shall be 15th June 2011. An Expert Panel, comprising of five members preferably from outside RIM, shall be constituted to evaluate and select the winning essay. The evaluation shall be completed by 25th June, 2011 and the winner informed.

6 General Information for participants

a)    The Essay competition is open to all interested but only one entry is allowed per participant

b)    The essays should be well researched. All quotes and references should be properly cited. Any form of plagiarism will result in disqualification

c)    The essays must be original work. Previously published works will not be accepted

d)    The length of essay should be maximum of 4000 words (about ten standard pages of text) using Arial Font, Font size-12 pt with 1.5” line spacing and the paragraphs justified either in .doc or.pdf formats.

e)    All entries are to be made only in English language

f)     The essays should be sent electronically to the Chairperson of the Organising Committee of RIM at dhanapati_mishra@rim.edu.bt as an attachment on or before 5 p.m. 15th June, 2011. The essays should not contain anything that indicates the writer’s name or identity.

g)    The forwarding e-mail should contain name and address of the participant `with phone numbers.

h) The essays will be pre coded before being sent to a panel of experts constituted for this purpose for evaluation/selection..

i)     The decision of panel is final and not subject to any further appeal

j)     The first three winners shall be awarded a cash prize of Nu.20000, 10000 & 5000 respectively during the inaugural day of RIM Silver Jubilee Celebration in July 2011.

k)    The winner will be informed by letter or email after 26th June 2011. The winner will have to come in person to collect the prize or authorize someone to come and collect on his/her behalf.

l)     The Institute reserves the right to publish or make the all submitted essays available to general public
