Medini Prasad Sharma

Medini Prasad Sharma is from Kuchin, Samtse. Graduated in 1976 with a BA (Eco. Hons) from St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Accounting from Highbury College of Technology, U.K. In addition, he has attended a number of short courses in Public Finance, National Economic Management, Financial Planning and Programming, Fiscal and Monetary Policy, Accounting and Financial Management in Public Sector and a Program for Development Managers from some of the reputed training institutes abroad. He joined the Royal Institute of Management as a Sr. Lecturer in October 1997 on transfer from the Ministry of Finance.

He has a wide range of working experience from the private sector development to the financial management areas. His core area of specialization is the Public Financial Administration i.e. Government Financial Management System viz. Government Budgeting, Property Management, Procurement Management, Financial Rules and Procedures and Aid Coordination and Debt Management.

Mr.Sharma joined government service in the Department of Trade and Industry as Trainee Officer on 8th Feb. 1977 and was promoted to the post of Trade and Industry Officer and posted to the Industrial Estate, Phuntsholing in 1978. In 1979 he was promoted to the post of Regional Trade and Industry Officer which is equivalent to Deputy Director.

In 1982 he was transferred from the Department of Trade and Industries to the Department of Budget and Accounts as Deputy Director and then was promoted to the post of Joint Director in 1988. He also worked as a counterpart to the Technical Advisor from the IMF for development and installation of the Program Budget Model in the financial management system of the Royal Government. After having worked there for more than 15 years he was transferred to the Royal Institute Management in 1997.

He is a Sr. Lecturer and lectures on Government Financial Management in all the financial related courses and conducts training/ workshops in finance and accounting areas. He thus is a practitioner turn lecturer bringing his practical work experience to the classroom sessions.

Currently, he is one of the core faculty members of the Department of Finance and Business (DFB) in the RIM.
