About Thinley Namgyal

Thinley Namgyal is a distinguished academic and public servant, currently serving as a Professor at the Royal Institute of Management (RIM) in Thimphu, Bhutan. With an MBA from the University of Canberra and over three decades of experience, he has held various roles at RIM, including Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and now Professor since 2022. His research interests focus on work-family dynamics in government organizations, the impact of Bhutan’s tourism policies, and the challenges faced by local leaders.
In addition to his academic career, Thinley served as a Militia Officer in the Royal Bhutan Army (1991-1995) and as an Administrative Officer at the High Court of Bhutan. His community involvement includes contributions to religious and cultural projects in Bhutan. He has published research on civil servant job satisfaction and the participation of persons with disabilities in elections.
Thinley has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Gold Medal in the National Order of Merit for Teaching Excellence and the Silver Medal for Dedicated Civil Service. His career continues to significantly shape Bhutan’s education, public service, and community development.
