RIM Local Academy (LA)

CISCO Systems Inc. USA is one of the world’s largest giants in the field of Networking Technology. CISCO Networking Training Programs are recognized worldwide and offer students excellent opportunities for global employment, after qualifying CISCO Certification Examination.

Royal Institute of Management is the first Cisco Networking Local Academy to be set up in Bhutan. The Academy was setup in the year 1999 under the project “Setting-up of CISCO Networking institute”, Asia Pacific Development Information Programme (APDIP). Since then two more academies has been set up in Bhutan (Sherubtse College – 2004 and Department of Information Technology, MoIC – 2005). The CCNA Programs for Academy RIM and DIT are being implemented by department of ICT (4 Certified Cisco Instructors). The instructors and training of CCNA program for Academy DIT, MoIC is implemented here at the institute due to lack of faculty and infrastructure at DIT.

All three Local Academies are affiliated to Keane School of Excellence, IIIT, Hyderabad (Cisco Regional Academy -RA). The LA provides a curriculum of four semester participation program, enabling students to attain the privileged CCNA certification and training.

As of July 2007, CISCO introduced new curriculum, CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration in place of CCNA v3.0 which is being done so to

• shift focus from program growth to student outcomes;
• develop courseware tailored to student goals; and
• align skills with specific jobs in networking

Two semesters each of CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration are already being implemented at various local academies in the world. The Academy RIM and DIT will also be rolling out this new curriculum by end of year 2007.

This particular program CCNA is offered as a regular module to the trainees undergoing DIMS course since 2002. The program is also offered as ad hoc course to the private and working IT professional.
